The pool fence went up at the end of last month.
And somehow something as practical as a pool fence ended up feeling emotional to me.
At the time, it was mostly just a long weekend of tools scattered everywhere, my husband reading instructions out loud, my father in law helping piece everything together, and me handing over the wrong tool while trying to keep 3 boys alive and fed.
Pretty standard around here 😅
But now that we’ve had a few weeks to settle into it all, I keep catching these little moments that make me stop for a second.
Wet footprints across the concrete.
Pool towels draped over chairs.
The boys already arguing over floaties.
The sound of splashing and laughing carrying through the backyard.
And underneath all of it is this quiet feeling I can’t shake:
So much love lives inside the practical things.
Not the big polished moments.
Not the Pinterest perfect memories.
But the building.
The preparing.
The staying up late to put something together for your family.
The creating a safe place for your kids to grow up.
The fence itself isn’t exciting.
But what it represents is.
Summer nights.
Friends coming over.
Sunscreen-covered little faces.
Cannonballs.
Kids growing way too fast.
And maybe that’s what this season of life really is.
A thousand ordinary moments that someday become the memories we miss the most.
I think that’s part of why photography means so much to me too.
Because years from now, I know I won’t care what the backyard looked like or whether everything was perfectly put together.
I’ll care that we lived here fully.
Loud.
Messy.
Safe.
Loved.
And honestly?
I already know this summer is going to leave a mark on my heart.
P.S. We partnered with Life Saver Pool Fence for our pool fence and truly could not be happier with it. As a mom of 3 wild boys, safety was non negotiable for us, but I also loved that it didn’t completely take away from the backyard we worked so hard to create. Grateful for brands that help families enjoy these seasons a little more safely 🤍
